Healing event coming to Roswell

An interesting workshop has been scheduled in Roswell.

Kintsugi, a Japanese method of repairing broken objects, will be practiced at an upcoming workshop. However, the objects that will be “repaired” are people, in a hands-on session to help improve mental health.

In Japanese, the word “Kintsugi” means “golden joinery,” and refers to a specific repair process used to mend ceramics. When a vase or other object breaks, most people are likely to dispose of it. However, if the object is meaningful to them, they may try to repair it, and hope to make the repairs invisible.

Kintsugi turns this idea on its head by using gold or other precious metals to repair the breaks. Artisans mix powdered gold, platinum, or silver with lacquer resin, and use the paste to make the repair, which leaves a gleaming metallic line in the object. The repair is obvious, but beautiful.

The workshop will take Kintsugi as its inspiration to learn how to practice forgiveness, and recovery from trauma, using the techniques of meditation, keeping in mind that Kintsugi accentuates the breaks in an object, but also the strength in the repairs.

Everyone is welcome, whether they are currently seeking healing, or merely curious. Jennifer Finch will be conducting the Kintsugi: Turning Your Wounds Into Wisdom workshop on September 4, from 8.30 am until 1.00 pm, at Be Here Now Mindfulness on Vickery Street. Print shops can provide informative materials for this type of session.
