The ‘East Alley Pathway’, as it's known, is in the city's historic district, and provides a unique dining and shopping experience. The path is an alley shaped like a letter ‘L’, and intersects Norcross Street on its south side, and Canton Street on its west side.
The alley will feature enhanced landscaping and public art. Retail shops will be able to open onto the alley, and patrons will be able to enjoy some outdoor dining, or spend time enjoying the air in a plaza. The alley can be closed off from time to time so that pedestrians can stroll without encountering vehicles. At night, decorative lighting will enhance the space, and public art will be installed to further improve the area.
Other improvements planned include upgrading outdated infrastructure using elements that are friendly to the environment, making waste disposal more efficient, and upgrading lighting overall. Lori Henry, the mayor of Roswell, calls the East Alley Pathway a:
“…vibrant destination for visitors to downtown Roswell . . . a premier experience for all to enjoy.”
Groundbreaking for the project took place in September 2017, and the ribbon-cutting is set for this Thursday, April 19.
