What's Happening in Roswell, GA…

A growing number of cities are making it easier for residents to understand how their police department does its job, by holding academies to acquaint them with the inner workings of the law enforcement agency. Roswell is one such city, and it is now accepting applications for the course.

Among the planned activities are a ride-along, during which the resident will ride with an officer on patrol. Several divisions, such as traffic enforcement, a K-9 unit, detectives, SWAT officers, and other special personnel will give informational presentations. Class members will receive Roswell Police Citizens Police Academy polo shirts, and may be asked to volunteer for initiatives in future.

The Citizens Police Academy Class is 10 weeks long, and begins September 6. It meets each Thursday from 6:30 until 9:30 pm, at the Roswell Police Department located on Hill Street. A graduation ceremony is planned for November 8, and will be held at City Hall.

Roswell residents may attend the course for free, as may people who own businesses in the city. Participants must be at least 21 years old, and applications must be returned by August 20 at the latest. Officials suggest people who are interested apply quickly, as space is limited. The application can be found on the city's website, under the Community Outreach section of the Police Department.
