Tomato celebration to burst into life

McDonough is getting ready to celebrate the summer and one of the crops most associated with it, in the form of the Love and Home Grown Tomato Party

For three years in a row, The Community Gardens of Henry has hosted a party to celebrate the juicy vegetable (or, technically, fruit) is held at the Heritage Village Garden here in McDonough at 101 Lake Dow Rd. This unique rite of summer for the city features fresh tomato sandwiches, tea, and dessert served buffet style, and supports a worthy cause.

Helping Harvest gardens have produced and given away approximately 70,000 lb. in vegetables to feed Henry County residents. Funds raised from the party are used to purchase fertilizer and seeds, and to pay for water and other expenses. Tickets are $10 for adults, children 16 to 3 years of age pay $5, and those under three are admitted free.

Attendees will also have the opportunity to tour the Heritage Village Gardens and take part in a silent auction. Partygoers will be treated to music while they eat and mingle. Additionally, there will be a wide assortment of vendors selling homemade treats such as jams, jellies and honey, garden related items, and crafts.

Worthy causes often find that increasing their outreach to the public via a flyer printing service, even when no event is scheduled, significantly increases their support from the public.

The event takes place Saturday, June 21, from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm. Tickets can be purchased at the event at various locations, or by visiting the event’s website
