McDonough to showcase local crafts with festival

McDonough will be holding a community festival that features local artisans and businesses in May at McDonough Square.

The Geranium Festival is an annual event where consumers can browse unique local food and crafts vendors. The show also invites community businesses to set up booths, though the stores will not be selling services during the fest. Past vendors who have taken part in the annual show include Art By Marie, The Aroma Crystal Company, and Paper Towns Vintage. Entrepreneurs who have stalls at festivals like this may use banner printing to stick out from the other merchants.

The Geranium Festival was originally held in 1977 and was initially named the Henry County Chamber Arts and Crafts Festival. The event used to be set up at Big Spring Park. However, the fest was later moved to the city in 1979. Lois and Kirk Carney inspired the show's new name due to their annual donations of red geraniums to the festival. The money from the event will be given to local charities in Henry County and to those who are visually impaired.

McDonough's festival will take place on May 21 from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Businesses interested in getting a space at the event can pay $25 to apply. The first spot vendors select at the expo will cost $150, and any extra areas will cost $100. Companies can purchase sponsor packages for $250.
