McDonough Lions have festival in sight

The Geranium Festival, held in McDonough every year, will turn 37 this month, offering an opportunity for locals to relax with the family and friends.

Food will be available for purchase, and vendors selling a wide range of goods will be on hand. Attendees can also pick up jewelry, woodwork, and other handmade items, with arts and crafts being a strong focus of the event.

The event is hosted by the McDonough Lion's Club, which is part of a group with chapters around the world. It use all money raised from events such as this one for its various charities. On the Lions Club homepage, one of the main aspects brought to notice is the organization’s work in improving and protecting sight.

The Lions request that attendees bring with them any old eyeglasses they may have at home. Collection Boxes will be scattered throughout the festival. Additionally, eye screenings will be available during the event.

One of the missions of service clubs like the Lions is education; in their case, distributing information about diseases or conditions they are combating. Brochure printers are therefore often used to produce hand-outs that charitable organizations make available to the public.

The Geranium Festival is taking place May 17, from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, in the downtown area of McDonough. Both parking and admission are free and a shuttle service is available at no charge.
