An annual dinner to raise funds to fight facioscapulohumeral muscular dystrophy (FSHD) is to be held at the Sharon Baptist Church here in McDonough.
The Fulmer Dinner, as it is called, is organized by and named after the Fulmer family, whose lives have been affected by the disease.
The dinner will feature an antebellum theme and will include door prizes, Shane’s Rib Shack BBQ, and live entertainment. Guests are encouraged to dress up in keeping with the dinner’s theme. Historical & Hysterical Tours’ Peter Bonner will entertain and enlighten guests with insights into the historical roots of Margaret Mitchell’s ‘Gone with the Wind’.
Other entertainment will be provided by Miss Georgia Teen 2013, Virginia Wyckoff (whose sister Carden has FSHD), and the Fulmer Sisters with their cousin Savannah. The event is organized by Savannah’s father, Rod Fulmer.
FSHD causes a progressive loss of mobility that generally begins in the face, shoulder girdle, and upper arms due to the wasting and atrophying of the muscles. Last year, the Fulmer Dinner raised $10,000 to fight the disease, which affects about 500,000 people around the globe. Brochure printers play a significant role in informing the public about diseases such as FSHD and help enlist funds to fight them through events like this.
The dinner is being held at 5:00 pm this Saturday, September 13.
