Strawberry Festival returns to Plant City

It is almost time again for the Florida Strawberry Festival, which returns to Plant City for 11 days as of next week.

The festival was created in 1930 by the Lions Club to celebrate the annual strawberry harvest. Today, it is partly an agricultural fair with livestock and horticulture exhibits; one that stands out is the strawberry production exhibit, which will include "ask a farmer".

The midway has rides for kids of all ages, the Neighborhood Village features handmade merchandise for sale and foods such as cakes and preserves, and Pioneer Village will show guests how life was in the past. There are also contests such as strawberry stemming, corndog eating, and the strawberry soda throwdown.

Several concerts, some of which are free and others require a fee, will also be taking place. Among the stars who will be appearing at this year's festival are Charley Pride, Ray Stevens, Mickey Gilley, and Martina McBride.

This event attracts thousands of visitors to Plant City each year. No doubt local poster printing firms will help organizers spread the word.

The Florida Strawberry Festival will be held in Plant City from March 3 to 13 from 10:00 AM - 10:00 PM each day. Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for children between the ages of 6 and 12. Call 813-752-9194 for more information.
