Plant City area event to help keep community clean

Ensuring that hazardous waste is properly disposed of is one-way community members can be good environmental stewards, and a collection day for these sorts of materials has been planned for the Plant City area.

The Polk County Solid Waste Division has partnered with the City of Lakeland Solid Waste division to host an End of Life Electronics and Household Hazardous Waste collection event, and it is free to participate. The organizer explained that it has been designed to be both safe and convenient, and a wide assortment of materials will be accepted.

Paint thinners, paints, pool chemicals, household batteries, and insecticides are just some of the items that can be dropped off, and keyboards, computers, video game consoles, and fax machines are all on the list of items that will also be collected. Those who plan on dropping off electronics are asked to limit themselves to just five pieces, and should note that both business and medical waste will be refused.

Hosting a day like this can benefit both community members and the environment, and a poster printing company will be able to aid in promoting it to local households. It can craft a variety of items, and these can then be posted in public areas to promote the activity.

February 6 has been set as the date for this community clean-up day, and the drop off station will be open from 8:00 am until 12:00 noon. The collection point can be found at 605 Evelyn Avenue in Lakeland.
