Price reductions put into effect in Winn-Dixie stores

Winn-Dixie, based out of Tampa Bay just a short distance from Lutz, recently announced a new program to drop prices on hundreds of items in its stores.

More than 400 items in all stores will be discounted as part of the store’s ‘Down-Down’ program, and these revised prices will be guaranteed for at least six months.

According to Ian McLeod, President and CEO of Southeastern Grocers, the parent company of Winn-Dixie based in Jacksonville, the selected items were chosen because they were the ones purchased most frequently by customers.

McLeod added that there will be more discounts in the upcoming year. The strategy is now to keep prices as low as possible. Two months ago, Winn-Dixie permanently rolled back prices on more than 1,500 staple items. The new campaign is expected to save customers about $700 a year.

Since McLeod joined Southeastern Grocers in March after working primarily with retail companies and supermarket chains, he has endeavored to make the stores cleaner and more organized, and to improve on the availability of products.

In a partnership with Dolly Parton, Winn-Dixie is promoting the program in television ads. For its Print advertisements and marketing services, it is using a red foam finger with a sport theme to point out items with the new low prices in the store.
