Hot Rods Country BBQ, the legendary restaurant in Lutz serving some quirky items and hot barbeque sauces, recently underwent demolition to make way for a new restaurant.
The property was purchased by Sunset Livingston LLC in December 2015 from Champor Corp Inc., for $525,000. Jerry Shaw, a real-estate broker from Lutz, is managing the new property and project.
The restaurant, as yet to be named, will have an outdoor patio and serve beer and wine, according to Shaw, who has hinted that there may be barbeque items on the menu. The food will be family style and home cooked. The license for serving beer and wine was approved in January.
Shaw said the next steps are to determine a name for the restaurant, draw up the plans for construction, and get the requisite building permits. He emphasized that the drawings need to be completed and approved before setting a ribbon-cutting ceremony. He hopes that it will be opened within the next six months.
Hot Rods offered for its hot sauces with unusual names, as well as barbeque, cornbread and rustic décor. Dishes of note included armadillo eggs, lizard tail, and swamp bat.
Once Shaw decides on a name for the new restaurant and confirms the menu items, he might best be served by printing some banners that can displayed near the property to announce the new concept and the grand opening date.
