Having a home veggie patch can be both a delicious and rewarding hobby, and a workshop that will be held in the Lutz area will give those new to horticulture some easy to follow growing tips.
UF/IFAS Pasco County Extension has organized a free learning opportunity in Land O’Lakes, and those who attend will walk away with information they can use in their own home vegetable patch. The advice shared will start at the ground level and go forward from there.
The facilitator will discuss how to choose a location for a garden, and also how to ensure that the soil will produce a bumper crop. After this, tips will be shared about which plants will grow best and when they should be planted, along with how to keep weeds and insect pests under control. The session is scheduled to run for about one and a half hours, and will begin at 10:00 am.
Anyone who feels that this workshop is of interest to them is welcome, but they are asked to register ahead of time. Copies of handouts and learning materials for this type of function can be provided by local Print shops.
The location for the Vegetable Gardening Basics educational opportunity will be 5401 Land O' Lakes Blvd. It will be held on August 18, and more details can be obtained by contacting esantiagogomez@pascocountyfl.net.
