Lutz area school calls in the top brass

Pine View Middle School, which serves the Lutz / Land ‘O Lakes area, is looking for some secret Santas to help with a rather particular problem.

Pine View’s students have developed a rather heavy interest in music, which has left the band and the musical training department extremely short on instruments. So teachers Amarilys Barbosa and Sue Castellano are calling on the community to donate any classical instruments they may have in their attics, basements or shops.

At a recent concert at The Center for the Arts at Wesley Chapel, one student said that there were just seven tubas, but eight tuba players. The school actually had to borrow one, and while this seems extreme, according to Barbosa, it is actually a common occurrence. She says:

“My other shortage is French horns. We had to borrow three from other schools.”

She says all types of instruments are welcome and that they will certainly go to a good home.

In an effort to support Pine View’s drive for instruments, some of Lutz’s local businesses have chipped in as well. Newspapers in the area have run articles, while Print companies have no doubt helped produce Flyers and banners to put in music shops and other places around Tampa proper, hoping to get the word out.

Donations will be accepted at the school music department.
