Upcoming workshop teaches artisans how to start a business

The Artists and Makers Bootcamp is taking place next month in nearby Tampa. It is presented by the Arts Council of Hillsborough County and the Arts Business Institute.

The boot camp is in the workshop format and will teach, among other things, the correct strategies in order for an artist to start and sustain a business. The guest speaker for the day will be Carolyn Edlund, the director of the Arts Business Institute. Lunch is also included

There will be four separate topics discussed during the day and each will feature a question and answer session. The topics will be how to make work that the public wants to buy, creative marketing techniques, how to come up with correct pricing and how to sell works online.

In addition to this being an educational opportunity for local artisans, it can also be an important networking event for local artists.

With networking in mind, some of those planning to attend from Tampa and surrounding areas such as Largo may bring along their Business Cards to exchange with their peers.

The Artists and Makers Bootcamp will be held at the Entrepreneur Collaborative Center in Tampa on August 11 from 9:00 to 3:00 PM. Bootcamp fees are $60 per person. For more information about this event, contact the Arts Council of Hillsborough County at 813-276-8250.
