Special activities in Largo area featured in May

Several special events are coming to the Largo area in May, and no doubt flyer printing and poster printing companies are being used by the sponsoring organizations to let people know of their occurrence and to encourage attendance.

At the Tampa History Center, running through the end of the month is the third annual DooDad Art and Sculpture Exhibit. Students from the elementary, middle, and high schools in Hillsborough County will be using up to 20 cigar Boxes to create pieces of art. Today, May 9, the works will be judged with a special award for the sculpture that illustrates the cigar industry in Tampa most accurately.

Today and tomorrow, the Taste of Pinellas, a festival of food and music, will return to St. Petersburg at the Albert Whitted Park after a two-year hiatus. Performers at the event will include Bruce Hornsby and the Noisemakers, KC and the Sunshine Band, Neil Giraldo, Pat Benetar and the Blues Brothers - Dan Aykroyd and Jim Belushi. Local restaurants will provide food and there will be activities for the family and fireworks. Proceeds will benefit Children’s Hospitals.

Later this month, on Memorial Day, the Armed Forces Museum will be holding a family fun day in Largo from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. In the evening, a ceremony honoring veterans will be held in Largo in Central Park.
