A new street mural will be coming to the crosswalk at Central Park Drive in Largo.
The crosswalk can be found between the Central Park Performing Arts Center and the Largo Public Library in the center of Central Park Drive.
The mural in that location now was painted in 2018 on the crosswalk, but has since faded due to general wear and tear and use of the roadway.
Creative Pinellas and the city of Largo partnered together to identify a local artist from Pinellas County. They held a Call-to-Artists and received 15 applications.
Mayor Woody Brown, two local artists, and a panel of staff from the city reviewed all the applications and selected Emily Tayman for the project.
Tayman had an impressive portfolio that included some work in neighboring cities. She has some new ideas for the mural at the crosswalk that will promote the strategic focus areas of the city and prioritize safety for traffic and pedestrians.
While the mural is being painted, Central Park Drive will be closed to all traffic between 8th Avenue and East Bay, from Friday, 19 through Sunday, 28 April. Residents and visitors can be informed of such street closures and projects with flyer printing.
The Central Park Performing Arts Center and the Largo Public Library are set to keep their regular hours and scheduled programming.
