Largo to host band with world influences

Simrit, a New Age band, will be performing at the Central Park Performing Arts Center in Largo next month.

The band is an ethereal wave and neo-psychedelic world beat band and has been a hit around the world, with filled concert halls and theaters, raving fans, and albums that top the charts. Their music has been likened to the cinematic and epic feels of the films of Quentin Tarantino and David Lynch. Such unique performances are often promoted throughout a community with poster printing.

The experience of the Simrit band, which has an eccentric and eclectic blend of lineages and instruments, is founded in Simrit Kaur, the lead singer songwriter. Those who have influenced the music of Simrit include Led Zeppelin, Mazzy Star, and the Grateful Dead, as well as Kaur’s many years experimenting with and studying Kundalini yoga.

The other members of the group are Salif Bamakora, who plays the West African kora, which has 21 strings; Shannon Hayden on the electric cello; Devon Ashley on drums and other percussion; and Jared May on bass and Moog synthesizer.

Ticket prices range from $24.50 to $54.50 and are sold as a table with an exclusive meet and greet photograph and signing opportunity prior to the performance for $50. Simrit will be performing on Friday, October 8 at 8:00 pm.
