Largo to become home to new grocer

A new grocer may be coming to the Keene Plaza in Largo as an anchor tenant.

Keene Plaza is at the northwest corner of Keene Road and East Bay Drive and will be redeveloped. Two new businesses will be part of this effort, including a proposed Sprouts Farmers Market, a niche grocer that sells organic products and produce. Banner printing is often used at sites to make the public aware of such proposed developments.

Native Engineering, based in Lutz, is proposing to demolish parts of the existing plaza and create two new tenants in that space. The firm also plans to remove parts of the service road and parking lot and redevelop those areas to meet the needs of the new tenants, and provide improved vehicle and pedestrian flow.

The site plan developed by the firm shows that on East Bay Drive 81,055 square feet of retail space that currently exists will be redeveloped. What will be demolished will be the businesses between the BioLife Plasma Services center and Dollar General, and this will include Ocean Bingo, the China Graden, and Bealls Outlet.

Just over 23,000 square feet will be occupied by Sprouts. Next to Sprouts there will be another 15,323 square feet for future development that could house another tenant.

Sprouts has over 40 stores in the state and each store typically hires at least 80 people.
