Largo seniors to receive wheelchair lifts

A grant of $7,500 funded by donors to Senior Citizens Services, Inc. (SCS) will enable the Community Development Department (CDD) of the city of Largo to purchase and install wheelchair lifts for senior citizens who live in mobile homes.

Accessing Home, a new pilot project in the city, is making these installations possible, and the grant came as result of an application by the city to the Pinellas Community Foundation (PCF). The PCF established a fund of $10m, which comes from the SCS.

Founded in 1960, the SCS is a non-profit organization that uses the PCF to administer its grant program, which supports and benefits those who live in Pinellas County and are over the age of 55. Flyer printing can be used to make people aware of such an offer so that applications can be made to the relevant organizations, either by those in need or their carers.

Consequently, two foundations are brought together by this fund, both of which are committed to addressing the needs of older adults in the county. The three main areas on which the focus is being placed are senior support services, wellness, and housing. The PCF has served the county for close to half a century and has expertise in terms of grant management that it can bring to this partnership.
