Golf course in Largo earns prestigious award

The President’s Award for Environmental Stewardship from the Florida Turfgrass Association has been given to the Largo Golf Course in recognition of its outstanding contribution to environmental protection and sustainability.

Local Print shops often help spread news of such awards throughout a community with Flyers, Booklets, and other printed materials.

The Largo Golf Course has undertaken innovative measures to enhance habitats for pollinators native to the area, improve water quality, and reduce the use of chemicals. Among its eco-friendly practices are reducing nutrient runoff, planting native species, and creating bioswales that exemplify the commitment of the city and the golf course to maintaining healthy waterways, creating green spaces, and fostering environmental responsibility across the community.

The golf course has partnered with the city, state agencies, and the University of Florida Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences Pinellas County Extension Office to utilize water management practices to improve the health of waterways in the area – in particular Church Creek, which flows into the Intercoastal Waterway and McKay Creek – with an ongoing sustainability program.

It has also worked with the Parks Department to create a bioswale to help lessen the overflow of excess nutrients into the bay and into the stormwater system, slow and hinder the flow of stormwater to better infiltrate the ground, and provide food and habitat for native pollinators.
