Jacksonville walks for sight awareness and food bank

Vision is Priceless Jacksonville’s 7th Annual Strides for Sight Awareness Walk will be held in mid-November, and the Community First Thanksgiving Distance Classic will take place a couple of weeks later.

The Jacksonville’s 7th Annual Strides for Sight Awareness Walk is not only for awareness but will be a fundraiser to provide vision care such as prescription and reading glasses, vision screenings and eye exams to Northeast Florida’s underserved and uninsured community.

Before the walk gets underway, attendees can enjoy music, family-friendly activities, the on-site playground, music, dog park and giveaways. The two-mile walk will be on the park’s shaded paths.

Although registration will be free, participants are encouraged to raise funds. Those who raise over $100 will receive official T-Shirts printed with the event’s graphic design.

Participants may join teams (like EyeQ Optometry, Legally Brunette, and Florida Eye Specialists), create a team of their own or register as individuals.

The 7th Annual Strides for Sight Awareness Walk will take place November 18, from 8:00 am to 11:00 am at Riverside Park, 753 Park Street.

The 40th Community Thanksgiving Distance Classic will have a 1-mile Turkey Trot, 5k and Half Marathon. Proceeds will go to the Mandarin Food Bank, and toward the Sunbeam Road three-mile running/walking path.

Half Marathon registration will be $75, 5k will be $50 and Turkey Trot $20.

The race will be Thursday, November 23rd, beginning at 7:00 am at Pickwick Plaza, 9850 San Jose Boulevard.
