Jacksonville Naval Museum celebrates ship's 80th birthday

Coming in mid-September, the Jacksonville Naval Museum will be presenting an 80s Birthday Bash to celebrate the 80th birthday of the USS Orleck.

On September 15th, 1945, the Gearing Class-destroyer USS Orleck, named for WWII hero Lieutenant Joseph Orlick, USN, was commissioned and was the last destroyer be put into service in World War II. She also served in Viet Nam and Korea, now is on display at Jacksonville's Navy Pier.

A welcome ceremony will begin at 10:00 am. Food trucks will be on-site with snacks for purchase, and DJRandMX will be providing the music. Family-Friendly activities are being planned.

For $8.86, attendees may take a tour of the ship.

One family-friendly activity will be a Freedom Fest Car, Bike and Truck show. It will feature all models and makes of ATVs, trucks, bikes and cars. Free museum tours are included in registration for those who register their vehicles. Admission will be free for spectators.

Freedom Fest Car Show will take place Saturday September 13th from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm at the museum.

Supporters of museums like the Jacksonville Naval Museum occasionally get some flyer printing done at local Print shops in order to place Flyers around their neighborhoods to advertise special events.

The USS Jacksonville Naval Museum is located at 610 E Bay Street and will have its 80s Birthday Bash from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm on Saturday, September 13th at Navy Pier.
