The Humane Society to give class in Norwich

The Connecticut Humane Society will hold a class on dog DNA in August at the Otis Library in Norwich.

Exploring Dog DNA is a presentation where people can test their knowledge of different dog breeds and learn about how a dog’s breed can impact its health and genetics. The course will give attendees a basic understanding of dog genetics and provide an overview of canine evolution. Guests will also learn how to identify dog breeds by identifying their phenotypic characteristics. The intended audience for the presentation will include teens and tweens.

The Connecticut Humane Society is an organization that was founded in 1881 by Gertrude O. Lewis, an animal lover from Hartford High School who wanted to help local pets. The group has several branches throughout the state in cities like New Haven, New London, and Waterford. People who make recurring donations to the organization are added to its Wags & Whiskers Club. The group also hosts events like Text the Pets and Pet Story Time.

The presentation on canine genetics will be held on Thursday, August 1st from 11:00 am to noon in the Otis Library community room. The library’s program is free to all participants, though seats are limited. Patrons are asked to register in advance. Nonprofit organizations that hold educational events like this can use brochure printing to give attendees take-home information about their causes.
