A May event is bringing a unique experience to the art community of Norwich.
The Great Art Heist is an event from a non-profit run by an entirely volunteer staff, known as the Norwich Arts Center. In the experience, guests who act as a “thief" will get to bring along a “witness” as they “steal” a piece of art from the gallery walls. The “thieves” will get to keep the piece they select.
In many cases, the art is valued higher than the ticket cost. The pieces will be on display in the venue’s galleries, as well as online, prior to the event so guests can preview what is available. The order in which people get to take their pieces is decided by a random draw.
Tickets are available through SimpleTix. The “witness” tickets are $10, while “thief” spots are $75. If someone cannot attend, they must alert staff to who they choose to send in their place if they still want to receive artwork.
The venue is also called the Norwich Arts Center. Guests will first gather inside the Donald L. Oat Theater where snacks and drinks will be available. Once their ticket is drawn, the selected parties will head downstairs to the galleries. Many art related events use flyer printing as a promotion technique. The experience will be taking place on May 16th, between 4:00pm and 6:00pm.
