The state of Connecticut has given Jewett City and Lisbon, two towns that border Norwich, grants to fund projects for affordable housing.
Of the twenty towns chosen to benefit from the $12m in grants from the Community Development Block Grant Small Cities Program, another seven were also in Eastern Connecticut. The grants went to towns with no more than 50,000 residents.
A sum of $400,000 went to Montville and Lisbon respectively, which will focus on housing rehabilitation. A group of 10 to 15 lower income homeowners unable to pay for repairs in their homes will get repairs to their rooves, septic systems, heating, and windows. The town will also remove asbestos and lead paint and bring the house up to code.
Jewett City received $800,000, which will go toward the Phase 4 renovations of Ashland Manor Senior Housing. The complex has 30 units, and several studio rooms need to become full units with one bedroom, which is the state standard.
Paul Brycki, the State Representative for Lisbon and Jewett City, showed his appreciation for the money that will finish the current housing projects. He believes the renovations will make residency in the towns more appealing to retiring baby boomers.
Each town will have to write a letter to the residents affected by the renovations to give them details on what is being done. A Stationery printing company can provide a professional touch here.Get a Free Quote for Stationery
