According to The Norwich Bulletin, the city has been offered a plot of land to buy to build a complex for public safety and civic departments, including a police station.
The Thayer family reportedly wants to sell 2.11 acres of its land to the city as the site of the multi-story 45,000 square foot center to be located at 28 North Thames St. The complex would include parking on three decks, two of which would be sub street level. The entire project is set to cost $20m.
However, problems may arise if an area for storage and parking overflow is planned to be built over the 100-year flood plain of the Thames River. The city has passed up 27 properties due to the same situation. A committee created by the City council has spent a year searching for a location for the complex.
Rich Thayer, of Thayer Marine, believes that the North Thames Street site close to the Norwich Fire Department and American Ambulance would work well for a new police station. This view is shared by former Redevelopment Authority and Harbor Management Commission member Tucker Braddock Jr.
In situations like this, a poster printing company is often hired to create notices about preventing crime for civilians to see at the new police station. Sending a proposal to the right officials early would no doubt be beneficial to companies interested in taking on this project.
