Parents reigning over playground project

The Board of Education for the town of Preston, just outside of Norwich, have put aside $28,000 for Preston Veterans' Memorial School playground area. Due to safety precautions, the school's playground needed to be removed.

The money came from a surplus from the last fiscal school year which will stay in a separate fund for the project. The playground in its entirety is predicted to cost nearly $127,000. If the town helps work on the new playground, the manufacturer has agreed to take $23,000 off of the final total. Citizens of the town will vote on where the rest of the money will come from.

Jan Clancy, chairwoman of the Board of Education, has stated that parents within the community are to thank for taking control of the whole project. They were able to cut the cost of the project by more than half, and it is possible that the playground could be ready around the start of the school year in autumn.

Trying to convince their town to put aside funds for a playground takes planning and a vision of the ideas being put forward. Officials will no doubt want to see the proposed layout of the site and a breakdown of the costs. A poster would satisfy the latter and a poster printing company could help the parents make their visuals more convincing and clear.
