The Chamber of Commerce for the Greater Norwich area will host two career fairs in late October.
The Manufacturing Pipeline Initiative has seen growth through the Eastern Workforce Investment Board (EWIB). It was created to introduce manufacturing to adults, but the EWIB is currently working on training students in high school to land jobs in manufacturing after graduation. Norwich Free Academy offers manufacturing related courses.
A broad career fair and one specific to manufacturing will take place on October 25. Both fairs will promote local jobs. Chamber Executive Director Angela Adams hopes the youth will take advantage of available jobs in the state, stating that although many want to relocate, Connecticut has multiple opportunities and potential for future growth.
Students from Griswold High School, Norwich Free Academy, Colchester's Bacon Academy, and other Eastern Connecticut high schools will be there. There is a schedule for the students to arrive, but there is no time limit for how long they stay.
Both events are on Friday, October 25 in order to save transportation costs for schools. Some high schools will have representatives there instead of students.
Some of the 25 businesses that have sent an RSVP to the manufacturing career fair include Seconn Fabrication and Electric Boat. Nonprofit organizations, businesses, and town representatives will attend the general career fair. They may bring Promotional Products to give away and encourage students to apply.
