Norwich welcomes first baby of the year to East Connecticut

Shepherd Good Ford was the first baby to be born in 2016 in Eastern Connecticut. Born at around 1:00 am on January 1, the now one-week-old infant weighed seven pounds and twelve ounces.

Born at Norwich's William W. Backus Hospital, he is the son of Samuel and Autumn Ford, who have three other children under the age of five. Speaking to the Norwich Bulletin, Autumn admitted to feeling nervous, but said that they had not found it too difficult following the birth of their third child, Ransom, who is now two, so expected four children to be manageable too. Their other children are Redemption, 4, and Mercy, 3, making two boys and two girls.

The 29-year-old parents stated they are not likely to have any more children. They also decided to keep Shepherd’s name original, yet different to the names of their other children. They also wanted to have all of their children within a certain age of each other so they will move out around the same time.

Shepherd was the only baby born on January 1 at the hospital, according to Union Coordinator and Birth Registrar Perri Moosey, who gave the family toys and Gift Certificates for their new arrival.

Although Shepherd was the first newcomer to the world in the eastern part of the state, the first baby born in Connecticut was Nimson James Carr in Farmington just two minutes after midnight.

Many families send out Holiday Cards with pictures of their children. This year would be an especially good time to do so for the Ford family.
