Norwich students attend graduation

The Class of 2019 of Norwich Technical High School graduated on June 14, with 147 students in attendance at the commencement ceremony.

They gathered in the school gym in anticipation for recognition in 12 separate concentrations they can advantage of as professionals. Their friends and family came for support, and many of the students wrote personal messages on their mortarboards about their accomplishments.

Patricia King, the NTHS Principal, made a speech to the graduates, expressing excitement in seeing the students use the skills they learned at the school in the real world.

Eagle Scout and president of the senior class John Coleman said he was honored to be a part of a class. Coleman hopes to attend Three Rivers Community College for criminal justice.

Lena DeLaurentis, salutatorian, gained certification as a nursing assistant during her high school career. She will study at St. John's University for pre-med. Her mother and sister inspired her speech about taking chances despite imperfection.

Matthew Fells, valedictorian, made a speech about facing challenges, doing one's best, and making the most of the future. Fells will go into engineering with a scholarship at UConn.

NTS National Honor Society chapter president and Ledyard resident Madison Webb enjoyed her time at the school. She is going to Quinnipiac University for a health and political science double major before continuing to medical school.

Family and friends often use banner printing to show their congratulations to graduates.
