A Checkers location is set to open in Norwich.
Multiple franchises of the burger restaurants are moving into the area as a plan to expand in the New England region. Checkers Franchise Development Director John Palumbo commented that details of the property are not available yet due to current negotiations. However, he noted that the Norwich area is full of potential for the company.
Eastern Connecticut residents who drive on I-95 into New York and New Jersey are familiar with the brand. Although Norwich was not the first choice and establishing a presence in Hartford was the original choice, a nearby franchisee suggested the town. Afterwards, Checkers may expand to New Haven and Bridgeport, bringing jobs on multiple levels with it.
One of the biggest fast food franchises in the United States, Checkers center of operations is in Tampa, Florida. A previous store in Bristol closed its doors in 2013, so this is the restaurant's second attempt at bringing locations to the area. Palumbo said there were only 15 locations in New York in 2011, but there are now 60, so moving into Connecticut seemed to be the next logical move.
Once the restaurant finalizes the new location, a local Print company could create Posters to mark off the construction area and let residents know what is being built.
