The Norwich community is set to raise funds for kidney patients through the Carlisle Williams Foundation PB Dialysis 5K Walk or Run.
This annual race takes runners through scenic trails in Mohegan Park. It includes rugged forest area close to water, so participants should bring appropriate shoes and warm clothes. All participants must sign a waiver.
The run is scheduled for the weekend after Thanksgiving so participants can get outdoor exercise before winter starts in New England. Running times will be documented, available on the website, and printed in newspapers.
The race will start at the beginning of the trail and the route will be marked by yellow arrows and purple cones. The registration table is at the former concession stand, and officials have used banner printing to mark registration.
Pre-registration is $25 and registration at the race is $30. Both include a racing shirt. Proceeds help fund non-medical assistance like supplies, information, referrals, and encouragement for acute dialysis patients.
There will be age categories for males and females. First place awards will go to each group, and other awards will go to younger racers if enough sign up.
The Carlisle Williams Foundation hopes to lower the number of patients who refuse treatment and enhance life quality for patients so they spend less time at the hospital and participate treatment effectively.
The 5K race will take place on November 29 at 10:30 am.
