A race will be held in Norwich through Mohegan Park to benefit The Larry Pontbriant Athletic Safety Fund.
The Rose Arts Races 5K, 10K, and 1 Mile Kids Fun Run is a program where people can support a local cause while competing for awards. The races will begin at the Norwich Free Academy and take participants past local landmarks like the Norwich Recreation Department and Memorial Rose Garden. The runners will be put into categories based on their ages, such as Masters, Grand Masters, and Juniors.
The Larry Pontbriant Athletic Safety Fund is an organization that wishes to increase awareness of sudden cardiac arrest and raise money to purchase resources that help schools handle those medical emergencies. The funds from the group are used to purchase automated external defibrillators (AEDs) for schools and athletic fields. The organization also encourages people to get cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) training and learn to use AEDs. The non-profit is part of the Community Foundation of Eastern Connecticut.
The Rose Arts Races will be on Saturday, July 1 and will begin at 8:30 am. The 10K will cost $35, and the 5K is $25 to enter. Children may partake in the fun run for $10. The first 250 individuals to sign up for the races will be guaranteed to get a T-shirt. Organizations that hold similar activities can put their Logo Design on the event tees to raise their brand’s visibility.
