Officials on the town council in nearby Montville are reconsidering new waste management fees and may have an informative meeting with the public.
According to Wills Pike, a councilor, it has been nearly 30 years since the town has updated regulations about solid waste. Residents can take advantage of the low fees at transfer stations, pay $3, and keep coming back with as much garbage as they wish.
Suggested regulations included a single $15 with eight Bags each visit. Each bag after eight will cost sticker holders $3. Yearly stickers at transfer stations will increase by $25 next year and $20 each year after for two years. Seniors use the transfer station for $45, which will increase to $60 and $10 each year after for two years.
Proposed regulations also reviewed contractor waste, acceptable waste at transfer stations, and that stickers need to be on car windshields. They originated from a debate in the summer about a program that charges residents for the specific amount of garbage they throw away.
Howard Beetham, the former mayor, said that the public did not know about the council meeting about solid waste, and they wanted to get more public input on the matter. To show support or defense against the new proposals, a resident could use a poster printing service to create clear visuals of their economic and environmental impact.
