Norwich hosts winter 5K

The Hartford Marathon Foundation will organize a race in Norwich to benefit Reliance Health, Inc. in December.

The Norwich Winterfest 5K is a fundraising event where people can help a nonprofit organization and promote good health in the community. The race will begin at Kelly Middle School, and the route will pass local landmarks like Mohegan Park and the Spaulding Lake Path. Reliance Health, Inc. is an organization that offers programs for homeless individuals and young adults. The nonprofit promotes mental wellness through outreach programs and educational seminars.

People who want to help the Hartford Marathon Foundation with the 5K can become volunteers for the event. There are several tasks for volunteers, such as directing drivers to the race’s parking areas, handing out water to racers at the finish line, and cheering runners on throughout the course. Those who become volunteers at the Norwich Winterfest 5K can receive perks like post-race party food and discounts on future races held by the Hartford Marathon Foundation.

The 5K will be on Saturday, December 7th. The cost to join the race is $36 for adults and $20 for those ages 5-17. There is also a virtual 5K option that costs $26 to enter. Kids who are part of the FitKids program can enter the event for free. Marathon foundations that put together fundraising races like this may use poster printing to raise local awareness for their events.
