Norwich hosts meeting on electric energy

The public forum for consumer advocacy with Municipal Electric Energy was held last Wednesday, October 10, at the CMEEC headquarters in Norwich.

The state's Cooperative for Municipal Electric Energy's consumer advocate Bill Kowalski presented a meeting to talk to consumers, with approximately 12 people in attendance who gave input and brought up issues about their service.

The forum started with an introduction to the cooperative and a summary of Kowalski's position. Since the beginning of the year, there have been new provisions in the ethics code, travel guidelines that save money, limitations on compensation, an updated website, and many other improvements through the organization.

According to Kowalski, as this was the first forum, he had some leeway on how to go about it. The meeting finished with an open mic for consumers to ask questions or provide opinions.

Every year on the second Wednesday in October, the consumer advocate for municipal electric must host a public forum. The forum is in order to update consumers on consumer advocacy as stated in Connecticut Public Act 17-73.

Travel policies were of particular concern, as executives spent over $1.3m at the Kentucky Derby over three years. Now, the CEO must approve travel plans and IRS standards spell out reimbursements with CFO approval.
