Norwich hospital prepares soon-to-be-parents

The Norwich branch of Hartford Healthcare is hosting three extra events for expecting parents throughout a week in the middle of July.

There will be an open house of the Backus birthing center for individuals and couples who are about to be parents. Guests will learn about what the hospital provides for childbirth. It is free to attend but registration is required.

The Childbirth Preparation class also offers a birthing center walkthrough. It will cover the last pregnancy trimester, newborn information, labor, medical techniques, ways to provide comfort, and what to expect during postpartum. Registration is required. The cost to attend is $55 and is payable by credit card only.

Finally, there will be a free class on breastfeeding preparation. Designed for pregnant women and those who are going to support them through the labor and birthing process, the class will provide tips of effective breastfeeding. Registration is required.

Backus Hospital offers several events each month for expecting parents, from pregnancy and birth, to infant and toddler care. The address of the hospital is 326 Washington Street. Hospitals use brochure printing to promote birthing centers and give advice about prenatal care.

The birthing center open house is on July 13 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. The Childbirth Preparation class is on July 16 from 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm, and the Breastfeeding Preparation course is on July 18 from 9:30 am to 4:30 pm. Registration for each event is available at www.hartfordhealth.com.
