NFA teaming up with UCFS

Next month, UCFS is set to build a health center on the Norwich Free Academy campus.

Norwich officials believe having the center at the school will enable students to benefit from the best behavioral and physical health. United Community and Family Services has headquarters on Town Street at Edward and Mary Lord Center for Health. It also has locations in New London, Colchester, Plainfield, and Griswold. Montville High and Norwich Technical High have services provided by UCFS too.

UCFS CEO and President Jennifer Granger expressed her joy at the opportunity to work with NFA since the UCFS has benefited students in other schools and has become a valuable asset. Students from elementary school to eighth grade receive services from UCFS, which creates continuous care for the community's youth, she added.

According to Lisa Wheeler, Student Services Director at Norwich Free Academy, a health center on campus will eliminate several hindrances in health and give students more and better opportunities in educational access. Students who are sick or injured can see health practitioners at school and then return to class instead of taking the day off for a doctor's appointment.

Healthcare providers at the center will include a clinician in behavioral health and a nurse registered in advanced practice. Parents will be able to register their children online.

The nurse and clinician can carry Business Cards and give them to parents and students in case they need to call the health center.
