Free community health event planned for fall

The Healthy Living Festival will be held in Norwich next month, offering free health screenings and activities designed for residents of all ages.

The one-day festival will feature activities offered throughout the day, including shopping at the farmers’ market and participating vendors booths, healthy cooking demonstrations, a petting zoo with therapy animals, a reptile show, speed walking for health classes with Dr. Setu Vora, police dog demonstrations, several fitness classes with live music, free reiki and massage sessions, and face painting.

Safety Checks provided will include a course on preventing distracted driving, a child car seat installation inspection, bike safety classes with helmet inspections, an amber alert awareness program, and smoke house demonstrations showing the importance of smoke detectors.

The festival will also provide free health services to attendees, including blood pressure Checks, breast and cervical cancer screenings, gluten allergy and diabetes Checks, vision tests, heart health and vascular screenings, and access to healthcare and adult vaccinations questionnaires. Brochure printing and distribution may provide important health information, and increase awareness for these health issues for participants.

The event has been organized by the healthcare committee at the Greater Norwich Area Chamber of Commerce (GNACC). The goal of the committee is to educate and provide resources to residents throughout Connecticut, on nutrition and healthy living.

The 2021 Healthy Living Festival will be held on Saturday, September 25, from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM at the Dodd Stadium, located at 14 Scott Avenue. Admission to the event is free.
