Convention in Norwich to educate on healthcare and insurance

The New York and Boston branches of Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and collaborating to host a health seminar in Norwich.

The 2020 Outreach and Education symposium will take place in the Chelsearose Ballroom of the Norwich Holiday Inn at 10 Laura Boulevard. Topics covered each year include updates to tribal information, programs offered by the state, health insurance on the market, veterans’ affairs, and social security. This year, the seminar will count toward continuing education programs.

All individuals who work with medical information and healthcare topics – such as benefits, medical records, and patient care - can benefit from the seminar. It is free to attend and guests should book their own accommodations. The hotel is offering a discount on rooms for the event, and can be contacted at 860-889-5201.

CMS and Indian Health Service have a mutual goal to provide opportunities for Native American health organizations to take advantage of outside resources. These include Urban Indian Programs, Tribal Health Programs, and Indian Health Service. Federal offices such as Social Security and the Veterans Administration join these organizations to educate healthcare advocates about health insurance opportunities. Health insurance companies use brochure printing to highlight program benefits.

Division of Tribal Affairs representative for CMS Georgey Sparks can answer questions about the event, and is available at 410-786-4608 or the email Georgeline.Sparks@cms.hhs.gov. The symposium is August 12 at
