College and former hospital see renovations

Three Rivers Community College has received almost $1m from the State Bond Commission. The commission has also set aside $10m for the Norwich Hospital property.

The Norwich college will use the $920,000 to provide more academic assistance to enrollees such as the Tutoring and Academic Success Center, which still needs to be designed and built on campus. In addition, the library and other student services need renovating. The first part of the college's renovation is remodeling the ceilings, interior work, partitions, and making the framing near the library and the tutoring center on the second floor. Then, renovation plans will be put in place for the 27,000 square-foot Student Center and Library project.

The site where the Norwich Hospital once stood has fallen into disrepair, but will be cleaned up for future use. Nearby Preston will receive the $10m to demolish the Norwich Hospital edifices and carry out an environmental cleanup. The plan is to build a resort on the site, totaling almost 400 acres.

According to Democratic State Senator Cathy Osten, the college is an important part of the community. The money will give students a better chance of finishing their degree and earning certification. She also noted the Norwich Hospital property which will improve the local economy through development.

The community college and the new resort will need new Brochures to demonstrate the renovations.
