Japanese pottery workshop inspires Fort Collins

A pottery workshop is combining a cultural experience with a creative outlet in Fort Collins, providing area creatives with a unique opportunity to learn.

The Kintsugi Workshop, which will focus on the art of broken pottery, has been announced in Fort Collins for this April, giving pottery enthusiasts a new style to learn about and perfect. The course focuses on the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery by fixing the cracked areas with a lacquer that is combined with dusted gold, platinum, or silver, adding a new look to the piece.

Kintsugi, which means “golden joinery” in Japanese, teaches artists how to repair pottery and add a new vein of beauty to the piece. Students who participate will also learn more about the Japanese concept of wabi-sabi, or imperfection and impermanence. It views the repair process as part of an object’s journey. Printing services can provide professional-quality documents that provide cultural context and Kintsugi instructions, aiding each student.

Enrollees will break a pre-made ceramic bowl at the beginning of the workshop before putting it back together with various epoxies and gold embellishments. All instructions, tools, and supplies will be provided.

The Petrichor Collective in Fort Collins has announced that it will host the workshop on Saturday, April 18th, from 10:00 AM to 12:30 PM. Tickets are $65.87 per student online.
