Ice skating might not be a sport usually associated with California, but outdoor ice rinks are opening up in several locations in the southern part of the state, including Woodland Hills.
For the seventh year, ‘Woodland Hills Ice’ will be located at the Westfield Promenade on Topanga Canyon Boulevard. In addition to public skating, the rink has facilities for special occasions including such events as birthday parties, and group events for organizations such as school groups, nonprofits, scout troops, and corporations.
Woodland Hills Ice offers ice skating lessons for people of all ages, and hockey lessons as well. The classes run for eight weeks each and are held on weekends before the rink opens. The skating classes teach fundamentals and move on to power skating and performance turns. The hockey classes are aimed at helping players develop better technique.
Tuesday nights are family nights, when groups of four enjoy skating at a reduced rate. Finally, people may reserve ‘private ice’, during which nobody else may use the rink.
The ice rink opens today and runs to January 24, 2016, and the hockey and skating classes run from November 21 to January 10. Rink management might like to create festive Banners to hang around the venue. Banners today are usually printed on vinyl, which makes them very sturdy and suitable for outdoor use.
