A popular chain of Mexican restaurants arrived in Woodland Hills recently, when Trejo's Cantina opened its doors.
Trejo's is the brainchild of actor Danny Trejo and his partners, Jeff Giorgino and Ash Shah. Trejo is probably best known for the character ‘Machete’, which he has played on television and in several films.
Trejo's began as a small taco shop on LaBrea Avenue, and has expanded to six locations. The Woodland Hills restaurant is the first Trejo's to come to the San Fernando Valley, and has been opened here due to the number of requests Trejo received.
Giorgino said opening a sixth location in the valley made good business sense, since many of the people who stopped to eat at the other locations came from there. He says putting a restaurant within easy reach of these patrons was logical, so when a spot became available, Trejo's grabbed it.
The restaurant has tables, booths, and a large patio, which together can seat more than 200 patrons. Giorgino is also happy about the bar, which stocks more than a dozen mescals and more than 20 tequilas. Trejo's also serves its own Mexican lager, though it is brewed elsewhere. However, the brewer uses Trejo's recipe. The restaurant will serve three meals daily; this is the first location to serve breakfast.
