What's Happening in Woodland Hills, CA…

Italian restaurant opens in Woodland Hills

Il Fornaio, which has several locations across the country and serves authentic Italian food, has opened in Woodland Hills.

The restaurant has moved into a spot in Westfield Topanga, a mall in Woodland Hills.

Laurence Mindel founded Il Fornaio, which is now run by Michael Mindel, his son. Michael says that many Americans’ idea of Italian food is dishes that at never served in households in the European nation. Il Fornaio saw an opportunity to serve authentic Italian food, which it does, plating things like mare chiaro, which is linguine with mixed seafood; bietole (beet salad); and zimino d’aragosta, which is crab soup in a lobster broth. Americans are generally not familiar with these foods, but Michael believes they will enjoy them when they try them.

The restaurant also rotates selections in order to highlight dishes from various parts of Italy. Mindel notes that Italy is a large nation, which gives the restaurant an “incredibly rich culinary repertoire” from which to select.

Although it can be considered a chain, Mindel insists that the Woodland Hills Il Fornaio is different to other locations. Not only is this the first spot to open in seven years, it is also located in a high-energy shopping mall, which gives the enterprise a different feeling from other stores.

Managers might like to create festive banners to hang throughout the restaurant to celebrate the opening.
