Beans and squash have been cultivated in North America for centuries, and a Ventura workshop will share secrets for growing these crops successfully in the home garden.
The Master Gardeners of Ventura County have scheduled a presentation that will help area home horticulturalists grow vegetables in their garden. The session runs for one hour, and while advance registration will be appreciated, walk-ins are welcome.
The activity will introduce techniques for growing summer squash varieties such as zucchinis and patty pans, and both bush pole and runner bean cultivars will be in the discussion as well. Proper spacing and the importance of providing a trellis or other support will be reviewed, and natural pest control methods are also on the agenda. Tips for storing the harvest will be shared, and everyone will go home with recipes they can prepare in their own kitchen.
