The Treebate Program is currently underway in Vacaville.
This is a pilot program focused on residential shade trees. Homeowners in Vacaville may receive a rebate of $50 for purchasing a tree on the city’s approved list. The Measure M, Council District Benefit Program is providing the funds for this program. How long the program will last will depend on the funds that are available and made on a first come, first served basis.
Trees can be planted in the front or back yard of a homeowner’s property, but cannot conflict with concrete work, utility lines, and other landscaping of the city. Homeowners will be responsible for all maintenance of the tree.
The city says trees have many benefits for the community, including increasing the value and beauty of a home, offering cleaner air, providing protection against stormwater runoff and erosion, and reducing energy costs through the amount of shade trees provide when they mature. Flyer printing is often used to inform residents of such programs and their benefits.
Residents applying for these funds need to do so no later than 90 days after the purchase of the tree. An original receipt is required for proof of purchase, along with a photograph of where the tree is planted. All applications also need to be submitted online. Rebates will be issued within two to three weeks of receipt of an application.
