The Vacaville Parks and Recreation Department will be hosting “Storytime with Santa” this month.
Parents can register for a Zoom meeting or a 20-minute phone call this month, and arrange a designated storytime session. Those who register for a session will receive a credit of $3 at Bounty Books and be entered for a chance to win a Christmas dinner prepared by Nugget Markets. Flyer printing is often used to promote such special events and provide more information about the registration process on a city’s website.
Each session will present a personalized video from one of Santa’s elves who will introduce the man of the season. This will be followed by a pre-recorded video of Santa reading “Ben’s Christmas Carol” which was written by Toby Forward in 1996. The story tells of a mouse named Ben who takes on Charles Dickens’ character of Ebenezer Scrooge and relates the classic story from his perspective.
Kristin Milliken, Recreation Coordinator, said that as Santa Claus will not be able to individually visit family homes this year before the holiday, she decided to ensure that a memorable Christmas experience would be had by the children of Vacaville. She selected this version of the classic story as she thought it would be less scary and more appealing to children.
The sessions will be available from Monday, December 14 to Friday, December 18.
