The California Office of Traffic Safety has awarded a grant of $136,000 to the Vacaville Police Department to support its ongoing education and enforcement program.
The program’s purpose is to reduce the number of serious deaths and injuries on the roads in the city. News of such grants and their benefits for a community are often made known with poster printing.
Numerous resources and programs will be funded by the grant, such as enforcement operations focused on behaviors of drivers that are the most dangerous. Often, these behaviors can risk the safety of people biking or walking and cause crashes.
Enforcement operations will include collaborative efforts with neighboring agencies; training and certification for officers; presentations to the community on traffic safety issues such as impaired and distracted driving, speeding, and safety for both pedestrians and bicyclists; and enforcement operations that targes drivers who violate the hands-free cell phone law of California.
Bryan Larsen, a lieutenant of the Vacaville Police Department, expressed his gratitude for receiving this grant, which will strengthen the traffic endorsement efforts of the department and improve safety on the roads. He said that by doing so and focusing on areas of highest risk, the department is looking to prevent crashes, reduce dangerous driving behaviors, and make the roads safer for everyone.
The funding for this grant runs through September of next year.
