Genentech and the city of Vacaville have partnered with the San Francisco General Hospital Foundation to place a Hearts in San Francisco sculpture at the corner of Parker and Main Streets in downtown Vacaville.
The heart-shaped sculpture was initially acquired by Genentech from the Foundation in 2023 and the company donated the sculpture to the city in 2024.
Wendy Ackrell created the heart sculpture, which is titled “Labyrinthine Heart.” It features a spiraling gold pattern and is bright red. The city accepted it as part of its Public Art Collection. Flyer printing can be used to provide more details about such sculptures and their artists.
CEO of the Foundation, Kim Meredith, expressed her delight in partnering with the city of Vacaville and Genentech in this endeavor. Meredith added that by installing this type of art in cities other than San Francisco, the Foundation is spreading a message of healing and hope as well as showcasing stunning art. She said that these pieces highlight the commitment of the foundation to providing equitable healthcare, as well as the artistic talent in the region.
John Carli, mayor of Vacaville, said these heart sculptures are symbols of connection and compassion. He added that this sculpture will remind the community of the importance of care and community, and the role art plays in uniting the residents of the city.
